eFoiling Risks

eFoiling is a water sport that carries a certain amount of risk to the user if set safety procedures are not followed.  Being safe on the water is the most important part of eFoiling.

Foiling can be extremely dangerous, not only to the rider but also to others. The Efoil is a powerful machine that can travel up to 40 kmp, it has a propeller, sharp mast and the wings.

Safety Clothing

It is obligatory to wear the impact vest and safety helmet provided by E-Aquatic  as these will give protection when falling onto the board/water.

Explain to the client the eFoil parts: Full Details

Explain the various parts of the eFoil: the connection of the remote to the mast, the remote and how to unlock it and adjust speed.

  • board: EPP foam reinforced with an aluminium alloy frame.

  • explorer mast: aluminium alloy

  • wing - carbon fiber

  • stabiliser - nylon composite

  • lithium-ion battery - 2 hours charge time, 120 hours run time

  • remote control - 3 hour charge time

The Remote

The remote has a FlightFreeze safety function that will lock the remote and disconnect the propeller when the rider falls off the board.

Remote safety feature:  after a fall or after a 10 second timeout the remote will automatically lock. To unlock, press the minus button on the remote for about 5 seconds.

All beginners remote must be locked on maximum of speed 4.

The Battery

When the battery power level is lower than 20%, the eFoil will activate low power safety mode. The battery icon on the remote turns red and the battery will start beeping.  It will reduce motor output and speed to preserve energy and allow the rider to return to base safely. This warning must not be ignored.

Equipment check before each class and before going into the water

  • battery  and remote are fully charged

  • test that the remote is connected to the mast and propeller by pulling the trigger - only for a couple of seconds as the board is out of the water

Carrying the Board

Carry board correctly behind you avoid contact with sharp foils.  The remote MUST be locked as a safety precaution.

  • keep all body parts away from the mast and propeller at all times, never stand on the wing or propeller in the water.

  • the remote will enter lock mode after a fall or a 10 second timeout. so when swimming back to the board there will be no risk of accidentally pressing the trigger and sending power to the motor.

  • once safely back on the board, unlock remote

  • always Efoil with someone else

  • ride in areas of at least 2m water depth and not too close to sandbanks or rocks, as this could damage foils and potentially hurt yourself

How to fall from the Board:

  • when you fall let the board go dont try to hold onto it.

  • the remote will enter into flight freeze and stop the propeller

  • fall with the board and avoid mast and fin

  • falling, put distance between yourself and the board, always fall to the side or back of the board and away from mast and propeller never towards the front

  • release trigger of remote when falling

  • propeller will stop automatically

  • be careful when swimming near the board - the mast is sharp and keep hands and feet away from the propeller
